Clean and Classic Rehearsal Dinner Invites


This clean and classic design was created for a rehearsal dinner. We used Paper Source products, including their slate and eco-white papers and envelopes. The key to this design was to mimic the bride and groom’s style by keeping clean lines, simple typography and classic colors.

We gave it a twist by using a creamier white and a dark grey opposed to black. Slate is a trendy color right now for weddings. Using a creamy white eliminates the harshness and brightness of just using “white”. It makes it more stylish while still keeping it classy.

1st Wedding Expo!

About 2 weeks ago, I had my first ever Wedding Expo. No, no, not as a bride, or a bridesmaid, as a vendor (we’ve got a loooong way until those roles are switched). It was an experience to say the least. What I have compiled here, is a list of tips and things I wish I knew about my first go around. I hope you find this helpful whether it’s your first or your tenth!

1. Business Cards. Yes, you have a real business, this isn’t just for fun. People actually want to buy your things, so you need something you can hand to a potential customer so that they can go back to your website/social media outlets to check out your goods.

2. Square. Have you heard of this? This little guy is probably the best invention for all small business owners. It’s only $10, and it’s a card reader. You plug it right into your smart phone or tablet, download the app, and voila. You now accept credit cards. GENIUS. Check out the website:¬†

3. Pricing Structure. What are you going to charge people? This is imperative to nail down, because if you are uncertain, potential customers are going to bargain you down, or not think your credible. Know your cost of goods and your margins. Trust me.

4. Table Display. This was my biggest fear that turned into my favorite “thing to do” on my extensive list. You have to establish a look and feel you are going for that fits with your brand. First, start looking around your house. See what you can already use and go from there. It can get pricey, so start where things are free. Another tip: fresh cut flowers. They had life, beauty and color to your table.

5. Raffle & freebies. People LOVE free things. Don’t think you need to hand out cars or ipads… chocolate or candies will do the trick. I put them out right by my raffle which enticed people to fill out a ticket. This is a great way to gather a database.

Origins of Chickpea

First things first. Chickpea <– this is a nickname my Mommom gave me when I was a little girl. I can remember sitting outside on hot summer days, drawing and painting with her until the fireflies came out. She would call after me “Chickpea, can you hand me the blue pastel?” Hence, Chickpea Cards. She collected roosters, and since “chick” is in Chickpea, it just made sense to have this as my logo.

Next. What do I do? I make cards. I’ve always sent cards out to friends and family, mostly to old college friends that I haven’t seen in a while. There is just something special about receiving something in the mail, isn’t there? I don’t know what it is about seeing your name, hand-written on an envelope, straight out of your mailbox, that instantly puts a smile on your face. It’s just one of those “OMG… I like have to take a pic and post on my Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter feed… like now” moments. That’s what I love. I love to put smiles on people’s faces.

How did it become a business? I had a lot of inquiries from friends who wanted me to make them cards for special occasions, or special thank you’s for their families and loved ones. From there, I started dabbling in the invitation side of things, and created my first set of invites for my friend’s baby shower. Invites set the tone for your party, and I love coming up with the design that creates the atmosphere and feeling for your special day.
